Valley County becomes a true Winter Wonderland after a fresh snowfall. It’s also a place for new adventures and memory making during the magical winter season.
5 FUN THINGS TO DO IN WINTER IN VALLEY COUNTY
#1 Ice Fishing
Amateur and master fisherman alike can fulfill their need to fish during the winter months at any of Valley County’s prime fishing spots including Davis Creek Reservoir south of North Loup and at Aubles Pond in Ord.

#2 Hunting
Whether it’s big game or waterfowl, hunting is a popular winter sport in the Valley County area. Look for the pubic access signage in the Davis Creek Wildlife Management Area and Scotia Canal Wildlife Management Area.
Refer to the Nebraska Game & Parks Hunting Seasons dates for more info.
#3 Build a Snowman
Soak up the crisp, fresh air right in your own yard (if you’re a local) or in any of our community’s parks by building Frosty and his friend Olaf. Friendly snowball fights with your snowman making crew are permitted.

#4 Grab a Sled
The hills in the Valley County area are perfect for sledding after a fresh snowfall. When your legs have had all they can take and can’t carry you back up the hill, head to one of our local coffee shops to warm up with a cup of hot chocolate or coffee.
Psst…LOCAL TIP. The hill behind the Ord Elementary School makes for epic sledding.

#5 Shopping
It may be cold outside but the hospitality and friendly smiles you’ll find at local boutiques and shops will warm your heart. You’ll find shops that have everything from women’s clothing and accessories to jewelry and gifts as well as shops with all of the hunting gear you’ll need for your next outdoor adventure.
