Serving Valley County and Central Nebraska
In 1938 Evelyn Sharp was the first and only female commercial pilot in the state. Though she lost her life serving in World War II, her legacy has found a home at this airfield that is now named after her. The airfield serves private pilots from all over central Nebraska and the Sandhills region.

This outstanding example of Plains infantry outpost has been restored to its original glory. At a time when people were following trails to find gold in the Black Hills, Fort Hartsuff served as a buffer for travelers and settlers and the Native American tribes, primarily Sioux.

Millions of years in the making.
One of only two mines of its type in North America, this honeycomb mine was first dug in the mid-1800’s and shut down after World War II. A great historical and paleontological site, the area also includes some of the best hiking and biking trails through serene tree groves, whispering grasses and white sand beach.

Taking its name from the Loup River system, called the “Ladder of Rivers,” because three branches of the rivers flow west to east forming a ladder, this Byway makes for the perfect road trip route.Read More +
Scenic country adventures await.
This Byway runs 150 miles along Nebraska Highways 11 and 91 from Wood River to Dunning. The rolling farmlands and ranches are marked with bodies of water that have risen from the underground Ogallala Aquifer. Enjoy all the area has to offer while browsing nature’s greatest gifts.
An excellent display of historical artifacts and archives, the museum covers the settling of Valley County through modern activities in the area.

Marvel at the historic architecture and well-preserved interior of the stunning county courthouse. It’s lush green lawn, located in the center of Downtown Ord, serves as a the location for many community events throughout the year.
